My Personal Story

When you clicked on this page, I bet you’ve already read or watched some of my stories about U.S. politics, policies, or Asian American community concerns. Here, I’d like to take a moment to share a bit more about my personal journey—especially the life I led before landing in the U.S.

Prior to pursuing journalism in the U.S., I spent 13 years as an investigative journalist at China’s largest news organization. My work was both rewarding and challenging, as I operated within a delicate balance—reporting for the public interest while navigating governmental constraints. During the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, that balance became untenable. When authentic storytelling was replaced with propaganda, I realized that my purpose as a journalist no longer aligned with the environment I was working in.

At the same time, witnessing the chaos of January 6 at the U.S. Capitol reinforced my belief that the fragility of political systems is a universal issue. This moment served as a wake-up call, inspiring me to bridge information gaps and pursue journalism in an entirely new environment, where press freedom continues to stand as a pillar of democracy.

Back in China, I had a comfortable, middle-class life and a well-established career. With over a decade of experience, my role had become secure, predictable, and relatively stress-free. But I gave it all up to honor my unwavering belief in the power of journalism to drive meaningful change. This isn’t a boast—it’s a reflection of my dedication. Journalism has been my life’s work, and I’ve poured everything I have into it.

If my story resonates with you and you’re looking for a helping hand in your newsroom, I’d love to connect. Journalism isn’t just my profession—it’s my purpose. Let’s work together to tell the stories that matter.
